Kihon
•Events 1 & 2: (From Gedan Barai) Stepping punch to the head (moving forwards), rising block (moving backwards), front kick (moving forwards), low block (moving backwards).
•Event 3: (From Gedan Barai) Sanbon tsuki (moving forwards), rising block – reverse punch (moving backwards), roundhouse kick (moving forwards), knifehand block (moving backwards).
Kata
•All events: Kihon kata & heians for eliminations. Choice kata for finals.
Kumite
• Jiyu kumite will be judged using the standard JKA style shobu ippon rules. The will be no contact allowed to the face, head or neck for competitors in event number 9 and 10. Controlled attacks to the face head and neck will be allowed in events 11 to 18. Foot sweeps will be allowed in all jiyu kumite events.
•The fights will last for 2 minutes. If in the event of a draw a 1-minute extension will be held, if at the end of the extension the competitors are still drawing 1minute encho seen (sudden death/first to score) will be used. If they are still drawing hantei will decide the winner.
•All competitors must wear approved karate hand pads (THESE MUST BE WHITE, MADE OF CLOTH OR LIGHT WEIGHT LEATHER and styled such that the FINGERS MUST NOT BE COVERED over when worn) .The hand protectors must not have more than 2cm padding. A gum shield must be worn in all kumite events. Groin guards are advised in for males and chest protectors for females in kumite.
General
•Competitors must wear a clean white Gi. Long hair must be tied back (males included). Jewellery must be removed (wedding rings included) or taped over.
•In kumite events, glasses cannot be worn under any circumstances, but contact lenses are allowed.
•A high standard of behaviour is expected from competitors, coaches and spectators. Only one coach per club is allowed at the tatami edge.
•ANY BEHAVIOUR from, Spectators, Coaches or competitors that is deemed by the referee(s) to bring karate into disrepute will result in penalties being imposed on those responsible.
•ALL REFEREES DECISIONS ARE FINAL AND WILL NOT BE CHANGED.
•Spectators fees are £4 for adults over 15 years of age and £1 for children 15 years of age and younger.
•The ISKU are constantly training their current referees and also the referees of the future. Therefore, the ISKU welcome any dan grade of any dojo (must be 16 years and over) to take part in refereeing at the tournament. Each area and the referees in each area will be overseen by an internationally qualified referee.
